Privacy Policy
1. Your photos never leave your phone
Unblurly measures blur and sharpens photos entirely on your device, also in airplane mode. The app opens only the photos you select in the Android photo picker; it has no permission to browse your gallery or files. Photos are never uploaded, and we run no servers that receive or process them.
Each result is saved as a new image in the Pictures/Unblurly folder (or in a folder you choose yourself). Your original photo is never changed or deleted. The date and orientation from the original are copied to the new file; location (GPS) is copied only if you turn that option on. Saved images only leave the phone if you share them.
To pick a processing mode, the app reads hardware details such as total and free memory, chip model, graphics support, temperature status, battery saver and free storage, and times a short test run. These readings are used on the device; only rounded values (for example a memory range or a mode name like “MID”) are included in anonymous analytics.
2. Permissions
- Photos — no permission is requested. You choose photos in the system photo picker, one or many at a time.
- Saving — new images are written to Pictures/Unblurly through Android's media store, which needs no storage permission.
- Notifications — optional; Android asks you first. Used for the progress of a running batch and an occasional reminder, and can be turned off at any time.
- Internet — used only for ads, analytics, crash reports, consent and Pro purchases. Your photos are never sent.
Unblurly does not use the camera, microphone, contacts or location permission, does not request access to all files, and runs no foreground service. Batches run as normal background jobs.
3. Analytics and crash reports (Google Firebase)
With your consent where required, we use Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to see which features are used and to fix crashes. We log anonymous events such as “blur measured”, “photo fixed” or “batch finished” with rounded values (score range, processing time range, image size range, mode), plus device model, OS and app version, approximate region and an app-instance identifier. We never log photos, file names or image content. Crash reports contain the error type, stack trace, processing mode and chip model. Firebase Remote Config is used to tune processing limits and ad settings.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob and Unity Ads)
The free version shows ads: a banner on the Home, batch results and Settings screens, and a full-screen ad at natural pauses, for example after a photo has been saved, when you open finished batch results, or once after the first-run introduction. You can also choose to watch a rewarded video to use one Pro tool for 30 minutes. Ads never appear while a photo is being processed, while you compare results, or before the introduction is shown, and a result is always saved before an ad is shown. Unblurly Pro removes all ads.
Ads are served by Google AdMob, with Unity Ads competing through AdMob mediation. These partners may collect the advertising ID, device and usage information and approximate location derived from your IP address to serve and measure ads. See Google's and Unity's privacy policies.
5. Your choices (GDPR, UK GDPR, Swiss FADP, US state laws)
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Unblurly asks for your consent through Google's consent message (IAB TCF) before personalised ads or analytics are used. If you decline, ads are non-personalised and analytics stays off. In US states with privacy laws (such as California, Virginia, Colorado), you can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and targeted advertising. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices.
Legal bases (GDPR): consent for analytics and personalised ads; performance of a contract for the features you use and for purchases; legitimate interest for crash diagnostics where consent is not required. You may request access, deletion, correction or portability of data we control, object to processing, or lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell personal information for money; ad partners may receive identifiers as described above, which you can opt out of in Privacy choices. We do not discriminate against users who exercise their rights.
6. Purchases
Unblurly Pro (yearly with a free trial where eligible, monthly, or lifetime) is processed by Google Play. We never receive your payment details; Google tells the app whether Pro is active, also after a reinstall (Settings → Restore purchase).
7. Retention and deletion
Images you save stay on your device until you delete them. Settings and the hardware check result are kept in the app's private storage until you clear it or uninstall the app; cloud backup of that storage is disabled. Analytics data is retained by Google for up to 14 months. See how to delete your data.
8. Children
Unblurly is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and revise the date above.
